Wakefields of Ohio

In 1884 Harry Wakefield a colliery engineer and his wife Mary both born at Bedworth emigrated to the States.  Mary was the daughter of daughter of  William Bolstridge and Mary Ann Jaquesand, shortly after their marriage in 1869, they moved to the Durham coalfield at East Rainton along with Mary's sister Sarah and her husband John Mathews a pit deputy.

In the British 1881 census the family comprised of 5 children ,one of which can be found with their parents in the 1900 Ohio census at Trimble township, Athens County . The census also shows that the first child born in the States was at Illinois, in 1885, indicating that this was where the family first settled, moving to Ohio before 1888 where their youngest child Susannah was born.
