These distribution maps are produced using “Genmap V2 UK” an excellent mapping program by Stephen Archer.
 A number of different maps are available based on the following datasets

UK Census Data   (currently 1851 and 1881)

BMD Parish register data to June 1837   extra maps

BMD Data from GRO civil registration UK indices June 1837 - Dec 1937
Electoral Roll 2002 Electoral Roll dataset
